For those of you who don’t follow me on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, you probably haven’t been informed that I moved to Nashville for the summer. This is the main reason I’ve been MIA from the blogging world. I’ve been busy exploring the city, meeting new people, and cooking for them – of course.
I have cooked a lot while I’ve been here, I’m just now getting a chance to blog. One of my favorite things I’ve made that will be ideal for your healthy 4th of July festivities are Crispy Avocado Fries! They’re guilt free, gluten free, paleo, vegan, and of course, delicious!
CRISPY AVOCADO FRIESServes 1
Ingredients
1 ripe avocado1/4 cup almond milk (or your choice of milk)
1/2 cup almond flour
Salt, pepper, and other spices, to taste.
Directions
Preheat oven to 425F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Start out by peeling and pitting your avocado. Slice into “fry-sized” pieces – a good rule of thumb here is you should get about 8 pieces per avocado.
Set up an assembly line so you can dip your avocado fries in the milk, then the almond flour, then season with salt and pepper.
One at a time, dip your avocado wedges into the milk, then roll them around in the almond flour and place on your baking sheet. Lightly season with salt and pepper (you can always add more after they bake!).
Once you’ve prepared all of your fries, bake for 20 minutes, 10 minutes on each side. Keep a close eye on these guys, they’ll cook quickly.
Serve with your favorite dipping sauce – I chose chipotle hummus!
THE REVIEW
A few years ago, Cory and I had fried avocado fries at a Mexican restaurant here in Nashville. Yes, I do love fried food, but I think I love these baked fries even more! You can really taste the avocado with these fries, while the almond flour and seasoning adds a texture your mouth can’t refuse.
Don’t be afraid if the fries come out a little burnt, it will add a little bit of a smoky flavor to the avocado and will make them nice and crispy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside.
Double, Triple, or Quadruple the recipe for your 4th of July party! These fries will go fast!

Possibly the most delicious thing ever. I only really just started liking avocado but I’ve quickly become obsessed. Being Australian, I had to try it with vegemite and it was pretttttty good. I put up a photo of it along with a list of other things I recently started eating http://proventure.org/2013/06/29/food/

almonds… 😦
What about Coconut? You could try using coconut flour and shavings. Or are you allergic to that, too? Otherwise, you can use regular flour. Look for my onion rings blog and you could bread them using that!
Don’t believe I’m allergic to coconut (i just don’t like the taste much) but will have to try with regular flour 🙂
